Are you sure you are looking after your bras the right way? These soft but essential pieces of your wardrobe deserve more attention than you think! Proper care is not just about hygiene: it is the secret recipe for a longer life, a perfect fit and saving money.
Follow this simple guide and see how they can last you years longer.
When you wear a bra day after day, it never gets the chance to rest, so it quickly loses its elasticity and support. Wear your bras "every other day". Ideally, rotate 3-4 of them so each one gets 24-48 hours to rest and return to its natural shape.
If you want the ultimate care, hand washing is always the best option.
Life is busy and sometimes the washing machine is the only realistic option. If you use it, though, do it properly:
This is where one of the biggest threats to your bra's life is hiding. NEVER, for any reason, put it in the tumble dryer. The high temperature "bakes" the fabric and destroys its elasticity.
The answer can differ from person to person, but a good rule is: after 3-4 wears. I know, I know… you may wear it every day, but the build-up of skin oils and sweat reduces its strength. Washing regularly is necessary, but washing too often can be harmful as well: balance is the key.
Don't undo all that care by "burying" your bras in a messy drawer!
If there is one thing to remember from all this, it is this: the most common and most damaging mistake is washing and drying the wrong way. By changing just that, protecting your bra in the washing machine and letting it dry naturally, you have taken the most important step towards making your favourite bras last much, much longer.
